APC SOLUTIONS TECHNOLOGY IS RIGHT ON TRACK
Essex based wireless communications and IT specialist, APC Solutions Limited, completed a successful maiden test with new camera technology at Silverstone last weekend.
The company, which specialises in wireless communications, installed a camera in one of the cars competing in the Britcar 24hr Race. The Vauxhall VXR220 was equipped with the latest technology, allowing images to be transmitted to the pit lane and executive suites plus streamed live on to the internet.
The gruelling race took place at the Silverstone track from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd September. More than 80 GT and Touring Cars qualified for grid positions by completing 3 laps in daylight and 3 in darkness. The endurance race has become known as the UK’s answer to the famous Le Mans, with the familiar names of Porsche, Ferraris and BMW amongst the leading contenders. This year’s race was won by the Paragon Team Porsche 911, which completed a staggering 603 laps.
David Bell, APC’s Managing Director, said: “This was the first test of its type in the UK and used a brand new wireless system. In an endurance race such as this, systems need to be robust if they are to give us the results we are looking for. We were delighted with the tests which gave 90% ‘perfect’ coverage of the circuit, with the remaining 10% classed as acceptable. We’ll be carrying out a more comprehensive pilot of this technology in the near future, but this is a real breakthrough and a marked improvement on previous systems.”
